EnglishLanguageEach year, hundreds of immigrants learn English at the Nashville Adult Literacy Council.  While the majority of these learners are served in classes, some are taught by volunteers in a one-on-one setting in either the One-on-One Program or the Start Now Program.

English Classes
The NALC currently teaches English classes in Antioch, Madison,  West Nashville, and East Nashville. Learners in classes receive 2-4 hours of instruction each week. Class registration is conducted periodically throughout the year. Contact the office for the next registration date.

English Tutoring
The NALC currently offers English tutoring at our offices in West Nashville and in Antioch, along with various other locations throughout Nashville. Volunteers teach learners while tutoring in the One-on-One Program and the Start Now Program. Tutoring registration is conducted on an appointment basis as space for new learners is made available. Contact the office for registration availability.

Conversation Clubs
Conversation Clubs are an extra opportunity for English learners to practice their verbal English skills outside of scheduled classes or tutoring sessions. In this relaxed environment, learners can ask questions, discuss new cultural discoveries, and expose themselves to new English accents and dialects. Conversation Clubs are held in the daytime and evening in West Nashville and in Antioch. All learners and volunteers are welcome. Upcoming Conversation Clubs can be found on our calendar.
